FA Cup: Frank Lampard can thank his Belgian striker

Nobody in Belgium has talked about it but if Coventry City is in the round of 32 of the FA Cup where they will face Ipswich Town next month, it’s thanks to Norman Bassette!

It must have even made you smile… Domenico Tedesco, to whom some put a dunce cap on his head when he called the former Malinois to the Red Devils meeting in Tubize, before a trip to Hungary.

Scorer against Sheffield United in the Championship, the English D2, Bassette was indeed the architect of the victory over the other team from the South Yorkshire city, Sheffield Wednesday, on Saturday in the third round of the FA Cup.

It happened at 1-1 (former Cercle player Anthony Musaba had equalized for the visitors in the 90th + 3) and three shots on goal everywhere, after goalkeeper Oliver Dovin’s brilliant save on the Pole’s sending Olaf Kobacki.

It is in fact, you guessed it, the fifth shot on goal which qualified the team coached by Frank Lampard.

He was masterfully hit with the flat of his left foot by Bassette, hard enough to hit the mark, while goalkeeper Pierce Charles had dived on the right side, to his right.

“I knew I was going to wear it!”

“I didn’t have the pressure. I knew I was going to put it on,” Bassette said on the club’s website (https://urls.fr/ROuwVd). “I’m a striker, and I promise I’ll score more goals. I like that.”

“I really like it in England, and I give my all every time I’m on the pitch…” he concludes.

Coventry City is currently 16th out of twenty-four with 29 points in the Championship standings before hosting Bristol City (9th, 37 points) on Saturday (4:00 p.m.).
