Here’s why Éric Deslauriers is no longer with the Alouettes

After an association of nearly two decades with the Alouettes, Éric Deslauriers is no longer a member of the organization.

Drafted in the first round by the club in 2006, the former pass catcher played his entire football career (2007-2015) with the Sparrows. He then made the jump to the team’s staff, where he held several positions. Since 2019, he had the title of director of football operations and player personnel.

In December, we learned that he would not be back with the Alouettes.

During his press conference on Tuesday, general manager Danny Maciocia explained why Deslauriers no longer worked on his team.

“Unfortunately, the salary cap for employees does not increase significantly from year to year. It’s difficult to keep everyone. We have an envelope of money and we must distribute it knowing full well that there will not always be enough for everyone. This is what happened in Eric’s case,” he said.

“I then made it a priority to pick up the phone and contact the other general managers to make sure they were aware that Eric is an excellent recruiter in the CFL,” Maciocia added.

His recommendations have clearly paid off, as Deslauriers was recently hired as senior director of player personnel for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
