Toon Aerts won the Belgian Championship in 2019 in Kruibeke. He is putting the finishing touches to his preparation for the Belgian Championship under the Spanish sun in Calpe. The Deschacht-Hens rider left on Monday for a short internship. After the Belgian Championships, Aerts will go back to Spain to continue his internship and ride the World Cup in Benidorm on Sunday, January 19.
“The good weather here is good,” says Aerts. “I came here to recover after a period of illness and to recover from the tough program.”
The rider has already taken several 2nd places this season, but has not yet won in the season of his return. “I should have won in Namur,” he sighed. “That’s where I ruined it at the end. I was also close in Dublin, Besançon and Merksplas.”
“I had my fair share of bad luck, but I am satisfied that after those gloomy 2 years I can still mix with the rest. Laurens Sweeck and Thibau Nys are my top favorites, including a lot of riders, among whom I also belong.”
