Former Barcelona star İlkay Gündoğan has this weekend provided an insight into a somewhat bizarre situation which played out during one of the club’s fixtures last season.
The moment in question came in the Champions League, during a group stage meeting with Portuguese heavyweights Porto.
Barcelona ultimately went on to emerge victorious from the clash, by a solitary goal to nil.
But at one point during the first-half, the Blaugrana found themselves a man down, despite having not had a man sent off.
This came after Lamine Yamal momentarily departed the field of play, ultimately leaving then-manager Xavi and his coaching staff with no choice but to replace the youngster.
And, this weekend, former teammate İlkay Gündoğan has provided an insight into precisely what occurred.
Speaking during an interview with Sport Newspaperthe German explained:
“Last season against Porto, there was a point at the match that where we felt cornered. It felt like we had one man less on the pitch. Later on, I realized we did have one less. Lamine had gone to the toilet during the match and the coaching staff didn’t replace him.”
