Protest for pensions: prison staff will stop work from Sunday evening to Tuesday morning

Prison staff will participate on Monday in the joint union front demonstration organized in the capital against the pension reform of the next federal government. A work stoppage will be observed in all penitentiary establishments from Sunday January 12 at 10 p.m. until Tuesday January 14 at 6 a.m.

The ACV (CSC), the VSOA (SLFP) and the ACOD (CGSP) have issued an appeal to their members and expect a strong mobilization. According to the socialist union, prison staff risk being victims of “anti-social and populist pension measures“. The union also fears that recruiting staff for the federal civil service will become even more difficult.

The pension, which constitutes a deferred salary and for which civil servants pay higher social security contributions during their career, must remain an asset to attract young people and new collaborators, including in prisons.“, explained Robby De Kaey, federal secretary of the Flemish union ACOD. “The determination of the staff is all the stronger as difficult working conditions and insufficient salaries are now compounded by the prospect of a lower pension at the end of a grueling career.“, lamented the trade unionist.
