At the heart of an 11-0 run by the Bulls to finish off the Spurs in “money time”, there was this dunk from Coby White. Even if Victor Wembanyama is late to the action, and he is not really able to counter the Bulls' rear, we are only talking about this “poster dunk”!
“He had 8 blocks, of which I think 3 were on me” raconte Coby White. “I told myself that next time I had to try to dunk. To dunk before he goes up to the circle. When I started my drive, I told myself that I was going to get blocked if I went for the layup, and so I tried to dunk. I wanted to make sure I scored.”
A dunk that set the United Center on fire, and ignited his teammates. “Coby almost never dunks, so I kind of freaked out when I saw him do that,” LaVine laughs. “It was a big dunk. In the second half, we decided to challenge Wembanyama…”
Enough to make Zach LaVine jealous!
Author of 23 points, White made his coach proud because it is not given to everyone to challenge the best blocker in the NBA, who is 30 centimeters tall. “He has a huge wingspan, and he can protect the rim and cover on defense. He is incredibly agile” recalls Billy Donovan. “Sometimes it seems like we have an angle to attack him, but he's there with his speed, his size, and that makes things complicated. When you find yourself in this place, you have to make really good decisions.”
Enough to make Zach LaVine jealous… “We have a running joke in the locker room about the fact that someone must try to dunk on him” LaVine says. “I tried but it didn't work… So I'm happy, and a little envious that Coby succeeded. He has only had two dunks this year, including one at Wemby. Bravo to him! »
