Since Sunday evening, storm Floriane has been sweeping from west to east, more precisely from Vendée to the Ardennes. It causes strong winds in its path, especially in Rhône-Alpes and Val de Saône, as well as heavy stormy rains in the Cévennes.

At 1 p.m. Monday, Météo France placed four departments on orange alert for violent winds, including the Rhône. Others on yellow alert for violent winds should also be monitored. This is particularly the case for Ain.

120 km/h at Chamrousse

Over the last 24 hours, from Sunday January 5 at 10 a.m. to Monday January 6 at 10 a.m., four of our municipalities recorded wind gusts which are among the ten most significant in France out of 1025 recorded, according to data recorded by Météo Ciel. In Chamonix (Haute-Savoie), a gust of 176 km/ha was recorded in the middle of the night at the top of the Aiguille du Midi, at an altitude of 3,845 m. In the national ranking, this measure is even placed on the second step of the podium, behind Iraty Orgambide (Pyrénées-Atlantiques).

Winds of 146 km/h were also recorded at 1,027 m altitude, at Villard-de-Lans (Isère), the third strongest gust in France.

In the neighboring resort of Lans-en-Vercors, the wind blew at 125 km/h, at an altitude of 1,449 m, it was the fifth strongest gust in France. Still in Isère, seventh nationally, Écrins-Nivose recorded wind gusts of 123 km/h, at an altitude of 2,970 m. In the Recoin district, in Chamrousse (1,730 m), winds of 120 km/h were measured. Data which ranks ninth in the national ranking.

Gusts over 116km/h

Others appear in the top 100 in France:

– 116 km/h for the town of La Meije-Nivose (3,100 m), in the Hautes-Alpes.

– 112 km/hau Col du Mont-Cenis (2,032 m above sea level), in Savoie.

– 108 km/h at Reventin-Vaugris (295 m), in Isère and Parpaillon-Nivose (2,545 m), in the Hautes-Alpes.

– 107 km/h and 103 km/h at Mazan-l'Abbaye (1,240 m above sea level), in Ardèche) and La Masse (2,800 m), in Savoie.

In the Drôme, at Lus-la--Haute (1,059 m), Météo Ciel recorded gusts of 102 km/h. In Saint-Agrève (Ardèche), we stay above 100 km/h for an altitude of 1,014 m.

Some of our municipalities also recorded unprecedented gusts of wind. This is the case of Bourg-Saint-Maurice (Savoie) with gusts of 87 km/h, but also of (Drôme) with winds peaking at 84 km/h. In the peninsula, wind gusts of 80 km/h have been observed in the last 24 hours. In Alpe-d'Huez, the wind was measured at 74 km/h.
