Budget 2025: no “tax increases”, reassures Minister Amélie de Montchalin: News

The Minister of Public Accounts, Amélie de Montchalin, is not considering a tax increase which could penalize the purchasing power of the middle class.

This was the fear of the French: rising taxes. Amélie de Montchalin promises: “no new taxes”. In an interview given to Parisianthe Minister of Public Accounts has set the framework for the 2025 budget which will be discussed from Monday January 6. Amélie de Montchalin and Éric Lombard, Minister of the Economy, will receive the political forces in Bercy to prepare it.

The minister says she wants “keep the additional contribution on large companies as well as the tax on share buybacks” just like “the tax on plane tickets”. On the other hand, she warns: “no new taxes or tax increases which would penalize the purchasing power of the middle class. (Increase in) VAT is therefore not an option considered”.

“Save money”

Amélie de Montchalin will “present savings measures”she explains on the set of 2. “Our compass is that the solution is not to hit the purchasing power of the French. The solution is not taxes on the middle classes. The solution is to save money”she reiterates.

For this, the government “aims first to catch up with the corporate tax which was not paid by very large companies in 2023-2024. There were also proposals on high incomes. We do not want to create new taxes but for income everyone must pay their share”.
