Météo France had placed the departments of Rhône and Loire on Orange alert this Sunday, January 5 from 8 p.m.
Ain, Haute-Loire and Jura were placed on yellow alert.
126 km/h wind at Communay in the Rhône
A little after 9 p.m., gusts of more than 100 km/h were recorded. For example, we recorded 108 km/h in Communay in the Rhône. After midnight, the gusts had strengthened further with a peak of 126 km/h in Communay or even 98 km/h in Mions and 84 km/h in Lyon-Saint-Exupéry, according to the specialist site Romma.
In the Loire, the wind force was slightly less last night. At the height of the wind, we recorded 92 km/h at Chalmazel; 88 km/h in Pélussin shortly after midnight and 67 km/h in Saint-Étienne around 3 a.m.
On the border between Ain and Jura, the wind blew up to 106 km/h in Montoisey this Monday morning around 7 a.m. and 83 km/h was recorded at the end of the night in La Pesse.
In Ain, the south to southwest wind will generally remain quite strong until the end of the morning with gusts reaching 85 km/h locally this Monday.
For comparison, the latest storm, at the end of November, called Bert, unleashed gusts of more than 100 km/h with peaks of up to 142 km/h.
Orange vigilance extended this Monday
After the peak of the night, new strong gusts of wind are expected for the end of the morning this Monday, January 6. The orange alert lasts until 3 p.m. Monday.
No serious indicators linked to the violent winds last night have been reported by emergency services and firefighters in our departments at this stage. However, trees and other branches may have fallen in various areas. Caution on the roads is required.
Emergency services remain mobilized during the late morning episode.
After 3 p.m., the wind should weaken everywhere. And be replaced by rainy episodes.
Parks and gardens are closed
Due to these gusts, the large parks of Lyon, such as Tête d'Or, Cerisaie, Blandan and Gerland, and the cemeteries, are closed to the public all day this Sunday.
Ditto in Villeurbanne, whose municipality calls on its population to be vigilant in public spaces.
Identical decision in the Loire, in Saint-Étienne: parks, gardens, cemeteries and outdoor sports grounds are closed until the end of the alert.
