While the two leaders of this Vendée Globe are now heading towards the doldrums, Charlie Dalin is still in charge. At the first score, this Monday, Yoann Richomme had nevertheless returned to less than a hundred miles from his rival, with a delay of 86.64 miles.
Charlie Dalin and Yoann Richomme are expected between January 14 and 15 at the finish line in Les Sables d'Olonne, the traditional end point of the Vendée Globe. If the two men are already certain of shattering the record held by Armel Le Cléach (74 days, 3 hours and 35 minutes), dating from 2017, it still seems difficult, however, to know which of the two navigators will register their name on the list of winners on the occasion of this tenth edition of the solo sailing trip around the world. This Monday, 57th day of racing, at the first check-in (7:00 a.m.), and while the two leaders, pushed by the trade winds, have returned to the northern hemisphere after crossing the equator, Dalin (Macif Santé Prévoyance) is still in control in front of Richomme. However, the gap has narrowed again. And the skipper Paprec Arkea had returned to less than a hundred miles from his rival (86.64), this time launched in the same way as his pursuer towards the doldrums (which he should cross without the slightest problem) so that Sébastien Simon (Groupe Dubreuil) continues to head, but very far behind the two men, towards a third place on the final podium.
