Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on . Tonight: Steven Spielberg's latest masterpiece.

Among the best directors of the 21st century, there is one who has long held the number one spot: Steven Spielberg. It must be said that the filmmaker's successes are so numerous that we no longer count them: Jaws, AND The Extra-Terrestrial, Indiana Jones, as well as Jurassic Park, Saving Private Ryan, Catch Me if you can, or Minority Report.

But how do we become such a monument of the seventh art? Steven Spielberg answered this big question in his latest feature film: The Fabelmans. Released in theaters in 2022, this film is a romanticized dive into his childhood.

This semi-autobiographical story follows a young boy in Arizona in the 1950s, when he discovers a terrible family history. Although Steven Spielberg insists on the fact that there are very few similarities with his own existence, there is no doubt that here he signs his most intimate work.

The Fabelmans stars Michelle Williams as young Sammy's pianist mother. His computer engineer father is played by Paul Dano, while Seth Rogen plays the latter's best friend. And finally, the protagonist is played by Gabriel LaBelle (recently revealed in Saturday Night).

Steven Spielberg's latest masterpiece

The critics are unanimous: with this film, Steven Spielberg once again signs a masterstroke. While AlloCiné Internet users gave it an excellent rating of 4.2 out of 5, journalists, for their part, blew up the average, almost all giving the feature film five stars.

Among the feedback from the national press, we can read: “Humanist and moving” for Bande à part, “This thirty-fifth film is already unforgettable” for her, “Highway” for La Voix du , “A magnificent autobiographical story” for Le Parisien, or even “A work of dizzying precision and complexity” pour Mad .

Nominated seven times for the Oscars, and five times for the Golden Globes (including Best Director and Best Drama), The Fabelmans notably managed to rank among the greatest successes of the year 2022!

And it's not just the media and spectators who have fallen under the spell of this work. For Denis Villeneuve, the director of the Dune saga, this feature film is none other than “The best film ever made about the power of cinema. It's a miracle.”

And when we call Steven Spielbergwe can also afford the luxury of bringing David Lynch on set, and compensating him in… aperitif cakes! No doubt, this immense filmmaker is indeed one of the best of the 21st century.
