Météo- placed 30 departments in the north and north-east of France on orange snow and ice alert on Saturday January 4. Freezing rain is expected.

As temperatures drop, there is a risk of snow and ice. This is what is happening in the north-east of France. Thus, 30 departments are placed, Saturday January 4, on orange snow and ice vigilance, reported Météo-France. It will apply from 4 p.m. for several departments.

The departments concerned by orange vigilance are: Orne, Eure, Eure-et-Loir, Seine-Maritime, Ile-de-France departments, , Pas-de-, , Oise , Aisne, Aube, Côte-d'Or, Ardennes, , Meuse, Haute-Marne, Meuse, Haute-Saône, Meurthe-et-, Vosges, Moselle, Haut-Rhin, Bas-Rhin and the Territoire de . 15 departments remain on orange alert until Sunday January 5 at 6 a.m.

“A disturbance associated with a lot of mild air will sweep across the entire country in a southwest and northeast direction” Saturday January 4 and during the night from Saturday to Sunday, indicated Météo-France. The disruption will “come to encounter a mass of cold air”thus causing “snowfall and especially freezing rain for a few hours”.

Up to 5 centimeters of snow on the ground is expected in the Grand-Est, although snowfall will be “fairly brief”explained the site. Météo-France does not envisage, for the moment, a worsening of orange vigilance.
