The Spurs were no match for the Grizzlies, who flattened the young Silver and Black squad twice earlier this week in the second half of two games that seemed to be competitive at first. Now they’re headed East, with the first stop in Florida, where they take on the Heat before they cross the Atlantic to play the Pacers for a two game series in Wembanyama’s home city—Paris, France. They have a bit of a break before the first game on Thursday, so it should be all hands on deck for the Silver and Black today, except for Jeremy Sochan, who is still dealing with back issues.
The Heat are always formidable with Erik Spoelstra at the helm, but this has been a turbulent year for them. Jimmy Butler is coming off of a 7 game suspension, and he played his first game after the break on Thursday night against the Nuggets in a 20 point loss in Denver. Even with the loss, Jimmy had a solid game, hitting 7-15 shots and scoring 18. He could be poised for a breakout game today as he shakes off the rust from the suspension. The Spurs need to improve their consistency and avoid those second half stretches where the team can’t defend or score points for several minutes at a time. For a team that working with narrow margins like the Spurs, that’s a killer. Expect Victor Wembanyama to have a breakout game tonight, as the Heat don’t have enough talented bigs to contain him. The Spurs need a good game tonight to get them set up for a successful series in the City of Lights later this week.
Game Prediction:
Jimmy Butler is suspended for the rest of the season when he gives Coach Spoelstra a purple nurple in the locker room.
One final word:
-Go Spurs GOOOOOO!!
