A statement from the Ministry of Tourism states that the head of that portfolio, Josefina Rodríguez, gave the information during a work tour of the place, affected in recent years by meteorological phenomena.
According to him, the governments of the district and the southern state of Guerrero, where it is located, reported that the tourist area called Acapulco Dorado registered an occupancy of 94 percent; the Traditional, 91.8, and the Diamond, 88.9.
He highlighted that the average throughout the state was 90.2 percent, which shows that “Guerrero is standing and tourists continue to trust Acapulco.”
According to the forecasts of the state's Tourism Research and Statistics System, for the winter vacation season, which began last December 19 and will end on January 5, the federal entity expects the arrival of 348,534 visitors.
Rodríguez highlighted that, thanks to the joint work between the three levels of government with the private initiative, Acapulco continues to host large international sporting events, musical events and meetings.
In that sense, he alluded to the celebration of Ironman 70.3, the Acapulco Beach Soccer Cup, the L'Étape Acapulco by Tour de France cycling race, as well as concerts offered by groups and the International Congress of Physiotherapy Specialties.
By 2025, he announced, the Mexican Petroleum Congress will return, as well as the International Mining Convention, the Mexican Tennis Open, the Mexico Major Premier Padel and the Beach Soccer Cup.
Mexico received 19,917,000 foreign visitors by air from January to November 2024, an increase of 2.2 percent compared to the same period in 2023, the Ministry of Tourism reported in December.
36.3 million travelers arrived in the country between January and October by all routes, 7.2 percent more than in 2023.
