A written statement was made by the Chief Physician of Medical Park Antalya Hospital Complex regarding the death of artist Tayfur. In the statement, it was stated that the artist was brought to the hospital by military plane on December 16 and underwent surgery to clean his sinuses due to a previous fungal infection.
“Unfortunately, our artist, whose health condition improved after the surgery, was taken to intensive care yesterday afternoon due to rapidly progressing liver and kidney failure. Despite his intensive treatment and all the efforts of his doctors, our artist passed away at 19.38. As Medical Park Hospitals, we are committed to the development of Turkish music. “We are deeply saddened to inform his loved ones that the much-loved artist Mr. Ferdi Tayfur has passed away due to liver and kidney failure.”
The statement emphasized that Ferdi Tayfur is an artist who will be remembered for generations not only with his strong voice and unforgettable songs, but also with the innovations and sincerity he brought to Turkish music, and expressed his condolences to his family and loved ones.
The artist’s body was taken from the hospital
Artist Tayfur’s body was placed in the hearse brought to the hospital. A prayer was said with the participation of his relatives, Governor Hulusi Şahin, Provincial Police Chief İlker Arslan and his fans, and the body was sent off to Antalya Airport.
Governor Şahin expressed his condolences to Tayfur’s relatives here. Additionally, donuts were distributed for the artist in front of the hospital building.
It was learned that Ferdi Tayfur’s body will be sent to Istanbul in the morning.
The artist’s funeral will be held in Yeniköy on January 4.
Ferdi Tayfur’s Press Advisor and niece Şirin Gözalıcı stated in her statement regarding the funeral that a ceremony would be held for the artist on Saturday, January 4, at 12:00 at the Atatürk Cultural Center.
Stating that Tayfur’s body will be sent off on its last journey on the same day, Gözalıcı said, “After the ceremony, after the afternoon prayer at Emirgan Çınaraltı Mosque, his body will be buried in the family cemetery in Yeniköy.”
Fans of the artist are upset
Following the news of the artist’s death, his loved ones gathered in front of the hospital building. Fans praying for Tayfur shed tears. Some of his fans played Tayfur’s songs from their cars and phones.
Ayşegül Can, one of the artist’s fans, said that she spent her childhood with Ferdi Tayfur’s songs.
Stating that Tayfur’s death made them very sad, Can said, “Such an artist will not come again for a century. We got up from our beds and came in our pajamas. We came crying on the road. I am very sorry that we lost such a voice. My condolences to our nation.”
Murat Aygın also said that Tayfur is a very valuable artist.
Reminding that Tayfur is from Adana, Aygın stated that he also grew up in Adana and that he knows the neighborhood where he grew up very well.
Stating that they grew up with the artist’s songs and movies, Aygın said, “We would leave the cinema and cry. It was as if we grew up in the same house. Ferdi Baba was like a member of the family. He was the poor father.”
75-year-old Süleyman Akdoğan also noted that he and Tayfur are children of the same neighborhood. Stating that Turkey lost a valuable person, Akdoğan expressed his condolences to the artist’s fans.
Abdullah Şimşek said that when he heard that Ferdi Tayfur was being treated at the hospital, he came to visit him and waited in front of the hospital for hours but could not see him.
Expressing that he could not believe the news of the artist’s death, Şimşek said, “We loved him very much, we still have his tapes, I always share Ferdi Tayfur’s songs. Now we have come to do our last duty.”
The artist’s hospital process
Ferdi Tayfur, who fell ill at his home in Marmaris on December 15, was first sent by ambulance to a private hospital in the district, and then to another private health institution in Muğla.
After his treatment in the intensive care unit of the general surgery department, the artist was transferred from Muğla to the hospital in Antalya on December 16, where he underwent sinus surgery.
It was previously stated that Tayfur had a stent inserted into his brain vessel during surgery performed in a hospital in Antalya.
Ferdi Tayfur, who received dialysis treatment for a while, had his son’s kidney transplanted in Antalya in 2020.
