According to the Italian firefighters, who are monitoring the situation, further detachments occur daily.
The detachments of rock material continue from the area of the east face of Monte Rosa, where a landslide occurred in recent days. This was announced by the Italian firefighters, who are working to monitor the area, explaining that at present the detachment niche of the landslide appears unstable and further detachments occur daily, smaller in size compared to the initial event, and it is not possible to exclude further ones.
The landslide originated from Colle delle Locce, at around 3,200 meters above sea level, and the debris reached the eastern shore of Lake Locce, at around 2,200 metres. The firefighters explain that it was a so-called rock collapse landslide. Fortunately, the detachment of stones and earth occurred at night and no hikers were at high altitude in the area affected by the landslide. However, as mentioned, the situation is still monitored because further detachments cannot be ruled out.
The checks also continue in the Punta tre amici area, in the municipal area of Macugnaga (Verbano-Cusio-Ossola). Here, surveys are underway aimed at evaluating the state of the places and the movement of the landslide. At the moment, as communicated by the operators two days ago, the situation does not present any imminent critical issues. The Macugnaga fire brigade team, the unit that operates with drones from Turin and the Malpensa helicopter unit are involved in the monitoring operations. The operations are coordinated by the service officer, assisted by a specialist in topography applied to the rescue of the Verbania command.
