The New Year was celebrated properly at the ZDF New Year’s Eve show! Andrea Kiewel and Johannes B. Kerner guided viewers through the program on New Year’s Eve. It was a guest list that was quite impressive. From hits to rap, there was something for every target group at the ZDF New Year’s Eve show. Appearances included rap queen Shirin David, ex-DSDS candidate Sarah Engels, soul and pop musician Ayliva, pop singer Maite Kelly and the electronic dance music duo Fast Boy.

But a packed guest list, a spectacular stage show and colorful stage fireworks were apparently not enough to keep the ZDF viewers happy. While the show was still running, the audience took to the barricades and vented their frustration on social media (we reported).

While the market share of the overall audience was 13.7 percent, significantly lower than during the New Year’s Eve hit boom on ARD, younger people tended to prefer ZDF. In the 14 to 49 age group, the market share was 22 percent. But that is likely to be little consolation for those responsible for the station.
