Hwang Hee-chan has been torn to shreds after he wasted a Wolves attack with a “ridiculous” foul on Tottenham star Pedro Porro.
Hwang, 28, scored a brilliant opener for Wolves in the first half as the game finished 2-2 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium despite Son Heung-min’s penalty miss.
After the ha;f-time break, Perry Groves was fuming at Hwang after he conceded a blatant foul on Porro right in front of referee Chris Kavanagh when Wolves were on a promising attack as they sought out an equaliser.
“Absolutely ridiculous by Hwang,” Groves said on talkSPORT 2 on Sunday (29 December, 04:19pm).
“Wolves have an overload on that left-hand side and there’s a brilliant cross-field ball over to Nelson Semedo by Rayan Ait-Nouri. And then Hwang just runs into Porro, and thinks he’s going to drag him out of the way. Chris Kavanagh, the referee, is just 10 yards away. It’s just ridiculous.”
Porro on fire even though Tottenham drop more points
Ange Postecoglou’s side failed to get back to winning ways in their final match of 2024 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Hwang’s early opening goal suggested that it was going to be a long afternoon for the Londoners but Rodrigo Bentacur’s equaliser five minutes later levelled the score.
Brennan Johnson was then fouled in the box but out-of-form Son couldn’t get his form back on track as he saw his spot-kick saved by Jose Sa.
Johnson spared Son’s blushes not long later when he put Spurs 2-1 up in the third minute of first-half stoppage time.
However, Jacob Bruun Larsen managed to make it 2-2 before Tottenham could see out the win.
Porro was vital to Tottenham’s performance.
He produced a brilliant block in the second half to stop Wolves equalising earlier than they did and before that, it was his corner that was converted by Bentacur to equalise.
In other Tottenham news, Levy has been told to “break the bank” to sign this Wolves star ahead of the January transfer window.
