“When I woke up, I had already been rescued”: the first words of a miracle victim of the plane crash in South Korea

Two miracles survived the tragedy. This Sunday, a passenger plane crashed in South Korea, shortly before landing, probably after a collision with birds. All occupants of this flight of the South Korean low-cost airline Jeju Air were killed, except the two crew members who were in the tail of the plane, who were hospitalized in Seoul, reported the Yonhap news agency. A total of 179 people lost their lives, making this accident the deadliest crash in the country's history.

Among the two survivors is a 33-year-old flight attendant. “I woke up and found myself saved,” the latter said while being treated at a hospital in Seoul.

As reported by Yonhap, the latter suffered five fractures including the 9th and 10th thoracic vertebra, scapula and ribs. He also has lacerations on his forehead and scalp. The patient “cannot move his neck because his cervical spine is fixed, but he is able to make eye contact and give appropriate answers to questions,” the hospital director said.

“Communication is entirely possible” with the survivor, continues the head of the health establishment. “We are not at a stage where we can specifically talk about memory loss,” he added when questioned on the subject by the Korean press. The flight attendant was admitted to intensive care and will also be treated by psychiatrists. The hypothesis of complete paralysis of his body has not been ruled out.

The second survivor of the crash is a 25-year-old flight attendant. The latter is injured in the head and ankle but her life prognosis is not engaged, according to information from Yonhap media.
