From February 1, the electricity bill of millions of French people will drop. In question, the non-adoption of the budget by the government of Michel Barnier. Explanations.

This is news that will provide some relief to the household. The regulated electricity price should fall by 14% from February 2025. An announcement which still concerns nearly twenty million French people. But why will the price drop so much?

First of all, the government postponed the increase in the electricity tax which was to come into force before the end of 2024. Thus, the kilo of megawatt/hour will increase from 21 euros to 33.70 euros next year. Another reason, “electricity prices on wholesale markets have fallen significantly, this will more than compensate for the future increase in taxes”, assures Maxime de la Raudière, general manager of Selectra. On the other hand, certain households, which have subscribed to a fixed price offer, should bear the brunt of this increase.
