The travel of members of François Bayrou's new team is increasing this Christmas week, even before the first Council of Ministers which will be held next week. Juliette Méadel, city delegate and former spokesperson for the PS, is one of the only left-wing personalities to have joined the government. She chose a left-wing town, Clichy-sous-Bois, for her first field visit.
Tagged walls, dilapidated halls, trash, strollers and crates piled in window corners. “You saw Les Miserables de Ladj Ly ?”asks Olivier Klein to Juliette Méadel. The socialist mayor was in his place under Elisabeth Borne. “Well, it was filmed there, in a natural setting”continues the mayor.
Both of them roam the city of Chêne-Pointu. The most degraded condominium in France, also symbolic for having been the starting point of the riots of 2005 after the deaths of Zyed and Bouna: “We all think about it, obviouslycomments Juliette Méadel. Next year there will be 20 years. I also think of this youth who does not necessarily feel loved, who feels rejected, with whom we must speak. We talk about transport, I immediately think of having access to universities. It is to them that we must contact to prevent there being, again, Zyed and Bouna. And to break this kind of distrust and distrust.”
According to her, more social mediators are needed, but not only : “Public service is public order. It’s security, education, health. It’s a whole.” A way for this left-wing woman to justify her presence in a government that leans to the right : “The very fact that I, who am from the left, have been entrusted with this portfolio of city policy is a sign that the Prime Minister wants to move forward on these subjects. So if I may , through my commitment, to speed things up, I will do it. That’s also why I’m here.”
In a solidarity workshop a few steps away, we tinker, we raise chickens… Génim spends time there, he is touched by his arrival : “I didn't expect it, I tell you in all honesty. It warmed my heart to see her because I didn't think that a minister, for a first trip, would come to be interested in us. While we feel left out.”
“It feels like the train left without us.”

But he and Jean-Louis, the workshop manager, remain on their guard : “There are some who came, there are some who promised to come back, there are others who never came back. These are passages, it's a showcase, it's simply an exit for them… We are waiting for what comes next, hoping that she can carry out her duties as she wants, as she can above all. They also hope for a little stability in government to allow their neighborhood to move forward.
