Bayern Munich finished up its pre-winter break schedule with a bang, firing five goals past a hapless RB Leipzig side. Having come off its first league defeat of the campaign, a 2-1 loss to Mainz, and with Bayer Leverkusen hot on its heels, it was crucial that Bayern come away with all three points against the visiting Leipzig.
Joshua Kimmich, Bayern’s captain on the night, spoke after the match about Bayern’s response and performance against Leipzig (captured via @iMiaSanMia). “We played a very good game. We had a great start – and despite the quick equaliser, everyone saw that we were determined to win today. The players felt that the Mainz game was our worst performance. Things were completely different today. It was important to show a reaction and we can go home happy.”
Aside from Leipzig’s goal, it was an entirely one-sided affair, with the hosts keeping 71% of the ball and accumulating 2.78 xG to Leipzig’s 0.34 (FotMob). Dominating on every metric, Bayern heads into the winter break a maximum of four points clear at the top of the table, depending on other results throughout the matchday.
