Met Éireann has forecast a cold, bright day today with a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers, while early indications are in for the weather on Christmas Day.
Showers will become isolated by the end of the day with highest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees. Tonight will be cold with a chance of frost in the east. It will turn cloudier in western areas, bringing some light rain or drizzle. It will be mostly dry elsewhere with lows of 1 to 5 degrees.
On Friday morning, rain will push eastwards across the country before clearing from the southeast coast. It will be a blustery day with a mix of sunshine and scattered showers, again becoming isolated at the end of the day. Highest temperatures will range from 8 to 11 degrees.
Showery rain will move in from the Atlantic on Friday night, clearing to just isolated showers by the early hours of Saturday morning with lows of 4 to 8 degrees.

The weekend will see some unsettled weather with Saturday set to be windy, with a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers. There is a possibility of some hail, particularly in the northwest of the country. Highest temperatures will be between 10 and 13 degrees.
The same conditions will continue into Sunday, when it will be windy and blustery with some scattered showers possibly turning to hail. Highest temperatures will be between 6 and 9 degrees.
Winds will begin to ease from Sunday night into Monday morning. It will be cloudy on Monday with light outbreaks of rain spreading from the west during the day.
Any slim hopes of a white Christmas have been dashed with current indications showing Christmas Eve and Christmas Day will be cloudy with some rain and drizzle.
Rain over the two days will be most frequent in the west and north west and it will be drier in the east. Temperatures will range from around 10 to 13 degrees and remain mild overnight.
