Cody Bellinger’s trade to the New York Yankees has brought a new love triangle to the MLB.
After the news surfaced that the Chicago Cubs had moved the 29-year-old outfielder on Tuesday for Cody Poteet, fans were quick to notice what may lead to some awkward moments in the Yankees’ clubhouse: Bellinger’s new teammate Giancarlo Stanton once dated his wife, Bahamian model Chase Carter.
Stanton, a Yankees right fielder, was first linked with Carter in July 2018, when Carter posted a series of Instagram Stories with the baseball player on the beach. Several months later, Carter posted Stanton to her Instagram Stories again — this time to commemorate his 29th birthday, the New York Post reported.
“Thanks for not pushing me in even though I know you wanted to ????” the model captioned a photo of the pair, holding hands near a body of water. “Happy happy birthday.”

But the pair appeared to split in 2019, and Stanton sparked dating rumors with actress Priscilla Quintana in 2022 — though they never confirmed any relationship publicly.
For Bellinger and Carter, 2020 was the beginning of their love story. The pair started dating in July of that year, before welcoming their first daughter, Caiden Carter Bellinger, in November 2021 and their second, Cy Carter Bellinger, in April 2023.

“I think being a good dad trumps all,” Bellinger told PEOPLE before the birth of baby No. 1. “My girlfriend feels it; she’s growing in her stomach so she has that connection with it. I’m just there for the support, making sure she feels alright.”
In June 2023, the lovebirds announced their engagement, with Carter showing off her new ring in a carousel of photos on Instagram. And while the pair never publicly shared a wedding ceremony, fans speculated that the duo had tied the knot after Carter posted a romantic shot hugging Bellinger on the beach to Instagram, prominently showing off what appear to be wedding bands.
Alongside Stanton, Bellinger will make his Yankees debut at the team’s 2025 season opener in March. They’ll hope to nab their 28th World Series ring, after a disappointing loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2024 championship.
