The Socialist Group of the Cabildo of La Palma has shown its concern about the tourism promotion strategy, which “was presented with great fanfare at an event held at the Teatro Circo de Marte, where no answer was given to the main questions of the sector and of the palm society, which expects a solid and sustainable boost from this economic activity”.

“On this journey that begins now, according to the motto of this strategy, we do not know the starting point, the budget, nor what luggage we will have, nor what means will be used for travel, not even destiny.” This has been highlighted by the socialist counselor Susana Machín, who, continuing with the metaphor of the trip, indicated that “we are very afraid that we are facing a new version of Fernando Fernán Gómez’s film ‘The Journey to Nowhere’.

“Beyond a modification of the logo, the presentation of a promotional video and the usual self-promotion, the Cabildo Government has not been able to show a concrete, verifiable and agreed roadmap with the tourism sector,” said Susana Machín, who highlighted that in the presentation “there was not even talk of innovative actions to promote the Island.”

Meanwhile, the counselor points out that “among these fireworks, they forget such basic issues to improve the quality of the destination and dignify it, such as alleviating the abandonment suffered by the viewpoints and the deterioration of the signage, issues that we request to provide funds in the 2024 Budgets without them paying attention to us. How do we want to distinguish ourselves as a tourist destination and grow if we do not comply with the most basic things?

The socialist counselor emphasizes that “the current island Government of the Canary Coalition has been at the head of the Cabildo for more than a year and a half and, in tourism matters, they continue without direction and without providing solutions for the sector to take off.”
