Shining at Euro this summer, with the championship secured by La Roja, the world’s best young player, Lamine Yamal, winner of the Kopa Trophy, has already made a name among the greats. At just 17 years old, he can take pride in being the most popular footballer on the leading search engine, Google.
In 2024, Lamine Yamal ranks in the global Top 5 of the most searched athletes, coming in third behind Algerian boxer Imane Khelif and former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson. He stands ahead of American gymnast Simone Biles and another boxer – and part-time influencer – Jake Paul.
In France, Lamine Yamal also ranks in the Top 5 of search queries – still as the top footballer – only surpassed by the stars of the Paris Olympic Games, including Léon Marchand, Teddy Riner, and once again, Imane Khelif.
As for clubs, the football search crown on Google goes to Inter Miami, the club of a certain Lionel Messi. The Florida franchise ranks third in terms of search queries, trailing behind two MLB teams, the North American baseball league. A special mention goes to Bayer Leverkusen, the surprising German champions from last season, who sit fourth in this hierarchy.
