Then AC Milan had a much more difficult time with Red Star, where it only ended in the absolute end. An overview of all matches on Wednesday evening.
UEFA Champions League
Atlético Madrid
Slavic Bratislava
Atlético Madrid had few problems with Siemen Voet’s Slovan Bratislava. He saw how Julian Alvarez scored the opening goal of this Champions League evening. Griezmann was also accurate with the head (!) and with the foot. A penalty goal from Strelec only increased the tension for a few minutes.
Atlético is almost certain of a next round, Slovan Bratislava is eliminated as the second worst student in the class.
UEFA Champions League
Lille OSC
Storm Graz
Lille OSC had a more difficult evening against Sturm Graz. However, after minutes nothing seemed to be wrong when it was 2-0 ahead, but Sturm Graz fought back to the same level with a goal just before and just after half-time. Only in the end could substitute Haraldsson make the difference. Lille is climbing in the rankings and now has 13 points.
UEFA Champions League
Juventus
Manchester City
Juventus pushes Manchester City even deeper into crisis. No, even with De Bruyne and Doku in the starting line-up, it won’t work for Guardiola & co. It delivered a dismal performance in Turin. Ederson did not look good with Vlahovic’s header goal, substitutes Wéah and McKennie made it 2-0 after a clever attack. City flirts with the edge of the top 24, Juventus leapfrogs Club Brugge to place 14.
UEFA Champions League
Arsenal
AS Monaco
Then the other Premier League team will fare better. Arsenal went on cruise control past a disappointing AS Monaco. Only Bukayo Saka occasionally put the gear lever in sixth, which resulted in two goals and one assist for him. Arsenal is one of the six teams with 13 points, but with a much better goal difference in third place in the standings.
UEFA Champions League
Feyenoord
Sparta Prague
After half an hour, Feyenoord had already finished with Sparta Prague: 3-0 in thirty minutes. Sparta struggled for a while by scoring a tying goal before half-time. But Feyenoord didn’t even have to try hard to add a fourth goal. The 4-2 was a plaster on a wooden leg. Feyenoord also beat Club Brugge, with the same number of points.
UEFA Champions League
AC Milan
Red Star Belgrade
A great goal from Rafael Leão seemed to put AC Milan on the way to an easy victory. But Red Star Belgrade fought bravely back into the match and even claimed the lead after the equalizer. And yet the victory went to AC Milan. Tammy Abraham fumbled the redemption in goal.
UEFA Champions League
Benfica
Bologna
Even though Pavlidis was the first to shake the nets in the matches that started at 9 p.m., the goal did not count due to offside. The match between Benfica and Bologna fizzled out and resulted in a scoreless draw. Benfica is making some progress with the point, it (also) jumps over Club Brugge in the score.
UEFA Champions League
VfB Stuttgart
BSC Young Boys
What started as a dream for BSC Young Boys with an early 0-1 lead at VfB Stuttgart, ended in a nightmare. Once Stuttgart got going, they scored one goal after another. In the end they scored five more times, Young Boys Bern was doomed to last place with 22 goals conceded.
UEFA Champions League
Borussia Dortmund
FC Barcelona
A crazy evening in Borussia Dortmund. Although the first half was up and down, the goals did not materialize until the second half. Guirassy was able to erase Barcelona’s lead twice. But in the end it was not he, but substitute Ferrán Torres who was crowned man of the match with two goals.
Benfica – Bologna 0-0 (einde)
Pavlidis was the first to score in the 9pm matches, but his goal was flagged by the VAR. After which the match fizzled out and little or nothing happened anymore. The only scoreless draw of the day.
Feyenoord – Sparta Prague: 4-2 (end)
Feyenoord was finished with Sparta Prague after half an hour. 3-0 after thirty minutes. Sparta struggled a bit, but with another goal in the second half, Feyenoord sat back and conceded another goal.
AC Milan – Red Star: 2-1 (end)
After a wonderful goal from Leao, Milan still had a lot of trouble against Red Star from Belgrade, against all expectations. The Serbs fought back bravely and at times made it difficult for the Milanese in their own San Siro. Until Tammy Abraham secured the victory with a fumble goal at the end.
Arsenal – Monaco: 3-0 (one)
The whistle was also blown in London and victory was never really in danger for Arsenal. Bukayo Saka wiped the floor for the Monegasques with two goals and an assist.
Dortmund – FC Barcelona: 2-3 (ahead)
We had to wait for goals in the second half, after an unpleasant first half. Barcelona had to take the lead three times to beat Dortmund. Each time, Guirrassy canceled out the narrow one-goal bonus. In the end, it was not he, but Ferran Torres who crowned himself the hero of the evening as a substitute with two goals.
Stuttgart – Young Boys: 5-1 (einde)
The whistle was also blown in Stuttgart. What started as a dream for Young Boys due to the early 0-1 lead, ends in a nightmare. When Stuttgart got going, it became 5-1.
Juventus – Manchester City: 2-0 (end)
It’s over in Juventus against Manchester City. Once again City is defeated, not for the first time in this poor period. Even with De Bruyne and Doku in the starting line-up, they could not make a fist against Juventus. Vlahovic with a fumble goal and McKennie with a better goal sealed City’s crisis.
AC Milan – Rode Ster: 2-1
AC Milan experienced tense moments against Red Star, but it still seems to go through the eye of the needle. Tammy Abraham fumbles the ball into the goal. Milan breathes a sigh of relief, for now anyway.
Arsenal – Monaco: 3-0
In case there is any doubt: Bukayo Saka is indeed the man of this match. Saka was hoping for a hat-trick, but it was Havertz who deflected his shot into the goal. Well, two goals and one assist is certainly not bad for the Englishman.
Dortmund – FC Barcelona: 2-3
Still Barcelona ahead again! It takes full advantage of miscommunication at Dortmund and pulls four in the quick transition. The attack plays out properly, Ferran Torres rounds off and scores his second of the evening as a substitute. Will Dortmund bounce back for a third time?
Feyenoord – Sparta Prague: 4-2
The goals keep coming, it is also a prize in Rotterdam, but for Sparta Prague. It is an own goal in Beelen’s name.
Dortmund – FC Barcelona: 2-2
The Catalans’ lead did not remain on the scoreboard for long. Dortmund plays the Barça defense well on the next counter-attack. Pena has to reach a deep ball from Yan Couto, but just before his intervention, Gross lays aside to Guirassy, who can place his second of the evening in an empty goal.
Arsenal – Monaco: 2-0
Things are also going well in the Champions League for Arsenal tonight. Saka crowned his good match with a second goal.
Dortmund – FC Barcelona: 1-2
Barcelona in the lead again! It is patiently putting together a new attack. Via Yamal it goes straight to Koundé. The cross is good, but Fermin Lopez collides with Kobel. In the restart, the well-followed Ferran Torres is accurate.
Stuttgart – Young Boys: 5-1
In the meantime, the goals keep falling in Stuttgart. The Germans manage to score 5 goals, Keitel is the lucky one who gets an extra goal after his name.
Juventus – Manchester City: 2-0
It shouldn’t be for Manchester City. While it itself looks for the equalizer, it is hit with the lid. At the first counterattack it’s bingo for Juventus. Wéah creates a beautiful assist, McKennie with a falling volley for 2-0. Will the substitutes decide the match?
