Wind Advisory Thursday After Snow Squall In The Morning And More To Be Added

Tuesday Night Update December 3, 2024

A clipper type storm will be passing through Wednesday Night into Thursday morning. This is tracking well to our north, carrying most of the snow to the north as well. However, a cold front will cross central Maryland around sunrise with an intense line of snow.

This Snow Squall will be brief, lasting about 30 minutes, but might be enough to coat the ground in spots. This is not about how much, but more so about the timing and the cold winds that follow.

Temperatures will start above freezing, then drop. So there is a small chance for some brief icing. However more likely the damp ground will dry with strong winds.

I know there is a lot of concern for the school buses and morning commute. I would pay more attention to the brief intense line of snow to reduce visibility. The conditions for icing will be marginal. So it is possible, but not promised.

A Wind Advisory has been issued for most of the region to have gusts up to 50 mph. Central Maryland and Northern Virginia as not been included, yet. But given the forecast data, I believe this region will be added.

The other concern during the day will be falling temperatures and the resulting wind chills into the Teens by the end of the day.

Here is quick look at the timeline.

Set Up Wednesday Night

The Clipper will be centered in Ontario Canada. The trailing cold front will cross the Great Lakes with heave snow bands there. The front will bring a line of intense snow into metro areas Thursday morning.

Wind Advisory

I personally believe the counties in Central Maryland and Northern Virginia will be added.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA

I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region.

One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.

There has been no editor who can check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
