The Red Flames won 2-1 against Ukraine this Tuesday in the play-off for Euro 2025. After their 0-2 success in the first leg, Belgium therefore validated its ticket for the European Championship which it will compete for the third time in a row.
Sara Yüceil was in the comments alongside Lise Burion and returned to the meeting which was not necessarily the most brilliant of the campaign: “I would say the first half was more tense overall but that was to be expected. We go into a match having won 0-2 in the first leg, already qualified on paper, perhaps psychologically, there is a little tension which makes us dare less. Afterwards, there were still moments of awakening in the first half, notably with a canceled goal. Some actions were carried out very well but there was still a lot of technical waste and we felt that something was preventing this Belgian team from playing its game.“.
It must be said that the Ukrainians’ play had everything to hamper the Flames: “Ukraine had nothing to lose and they gave it their all. We know that they are strong in duels and they showed that today. But clearly the Belgian goals were magnificent. I am happy for them because it is deserved even if in this match it was difficult to see but they are capable of this type of technical actions and gesturess”.
