The famous presenter of “Love is in the meadow” is once again defending farmers. While a large protest movement has been agitating the profession for several weeks, Karine Le Marchand spoke on Instagram during the broadcast this Monday evening of the last episode of the M 6 telecrochet to submit an idea to her subscribers: launch a petition to force the food industry to support local agriculture.
“I would like to take this opportunity to make a little rant to help farmers because we should not forget them from tomorrow morning until the Agricultural Show. There are very few measures that have been implemented, measuring sticks, over the past year,” begins Karine Le Marchand. “The promises were not kept. We have to stop believing politicians, I don't think they will change much. In any case, I don't want us to wait for them because there are a lot of people who are starving,” she denounces.
“I have lots of ideas and I think that change can come from the industry, but especially from the hypermarkets,” she continues. “Is it okay with you if I make a petition to support a project?” I will detail all the ideas I have, I speak with a lot of farmers and I know that selling in hypermarkets can change everything. (…) I need the support of the French and therefore, of consumers to ask lots of things from hypermarkets,” she concludes, without giving further details.
This is not the first time that Karine Le Marchand has supported the farmers' cause. In January, during the previous mobilization, she made a notable appearance at a blockage on the A4 motorway. A few days earlier, she had announced in our newspaper that she would “ride on their tractors” if they demonstrated in Paris. She was already criticizing the food industry and hypermarkets: “Today’s promotions are the death of tomorrow’s fridge. »

Faced with free trade agreements and fears for food sovereignty, French farmers launched a vast mobilization movement at the call of the FNSEA and Rural Coordination in November. Despite numerous emergency aid and government announcements, agricultural mobilization is picking up again at the start of December.
According to the local press, several blockages were observed this Monday in the Gers, while farmers – German this time – blocked a bridge in Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin) to protest against Mercosur, the agreement controversial free trade between the EU and Latin America.
At the end of last week, the president of the agricultural union FNSEA also launched a call for the mobilization of farmers “all over France” on Monday December 9 and Tuesday December 10. “We will be in action” and “some will start next week,” he declared on RMC, without giving details on the nature of the mobilization.
