This evening, TF1 is broadcasting “Ticket to Paradise”, a romantic comedy starring George Clooney and Julia Roberts in a heavenly setting. But where was the film actually filmed?
Ticket to Paradise: Julia Roberts and George Clooney reunite
Released in 2022, Ticket to Paradise is directed by Ol Parker (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again). The story follows David and Georgia Cotton, a divorced couple who find themselves forced to team up. Their common goal? Prevent their daughter Lily, a recent graduate, from marrying a man she just met in Bali. Convinced that she risks making the same mistake as them, they join forces to sabotage the marriagenot without encountering a series of hilarious twists and turns.
This film marks the reunion of George Clooney and Julia Roberts, after their collaborations in the franchise Ocean’s Eleven et Money Monster. Their natural alchemy carries the film, offering spicy dialogue and a dynamic where rivalry and tenderness coexist. Ticket to Paradise skillfully plays on misunderstandings and funny situations, while lightly exploring the themes of parenthood, forgiveness and second chances.
The rest of the cast includes Lucas Bravo (Emily in Paris), Billie Lourd (Scream Queens) et Kaitlyn Dever (Hunted).
A Balinese decor recreated in Australia
Although the history of Ticket to Paradise takes place in Bali, filming did not take place on the Indonesian island. Due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions and lockdowns, the production team had to revise their initial plans. Thus, the scenes supposed to take place in Bali were filmed in Australiamainly in the state of Queensland.
The pristine beaches, turquoise waters and tropical landscapes seen on screen are actually those of the Whitsunday Islands, the Gold Coast and Brisbane. The Tangalooma Island Resort, located on Moreton Island, also served as a filming location, providing an idyllic setting for the seaside scenes. These Australian sites were chosen for their resemblance to the Balinese landscapes, thus making it possible to recreate the exotic atmosphere sought.
The choice of Australia as an alternative filming location proved to be a wise one. The production teams were able to take advantage of the similarities between the Australian and Balinese landscapes to offer viewers an authentic visual experience.
