Is the government in the process of reversing certain budgetary measures to avoid censorship? This is what the French Minister of Economy and Finance, Antoine Armand, suggested.

He said Thursday that he was willing to make “concessions” on the budgetary texts in order to avoid the economic and financial “storm” that he believed would result from the fall of the government.

“An extremely serious situation”

“Whatever differences in values we have, today we are faced with an extremely serious situation for the country. The Prime Minister spoke of a storm. It is not a word chosen at random, it is a word which has a financial, economic and budgetary resonance,” declared the minister on the media BFMTV and RMC.

He notably mentioned the tax on electricity, the planned increase of which is considered “inadmissible” by the National Rally, which has the largest number of elected officials in the National Assembly.

Possible censorship

The left and the far right could bring down the government, by voting together on a motion of censure in the event of recourse by the government to article 49.3 of the Constitution on the Social Security budget or that of the State.

Threatening to vote for censorship with the left, the leader of the French far right, Marine Le Pen, demanded “clear and firm commitments on the abandonment of the 3 billion euros in increases in the price of electricity (to the state budget), the abandonment of the de-reimbursement of new medicines and the de-indexation of pensions” on inflation.

Recently, several voices were raised to put pressure on the government and demand the resignation of Emmanuel Macron, such as those of the centrist Charles de Courson, and the LR mayor of Jean-François Copé.
