Florentino Luis has been a boyfriend for several years to represent the Angola national team. However, the average Benfica has chosen to refuse the various attempts made by the team selector Black Levers Pedro Gonçalves.

No room for drama

The midfielder spoke about the fact that he had not yet been called up by the coach Portugal, Roberto Martinez.

“There is no injustice. I don’t control who goes to the national team, it’s a closed topic. I’m focused on doing my job at Benfica”, declared the latchman during the press conference previewing the duel between Monaco and Benfica, in the fifth round of the Champions League which is scheduled for 8pm this Wednesday (27).

At 25 years old, Tino was born in Angola, in Lobito, but since an early age he has lived in Portugal and has 75 caps and one goal in the various Portuguese youth teams.

On his CV he has the titles of European under-17 champion in 2016 and under-19 in 2018.

Martínez’s praise

Recently, the Portuguese coach, the Spanish Roberto Martinez confessed that the defensive midfielder is in his considerations.

“It’s important to clarify. The first point is his talent, we really like it, we have been following him since my arrival. But I talked about players in general who can represent several teams. The important thing is that they want and want to play. I wasn’t talking about Florentino. The information I have is that he likes the national team, he has already done it successfully at the base. It’s about continuing with the process and without a doubt he has the qualities to play for the national team”, he said on October 14th, on the eve of the clash against Scotland in the Nations League.

Gonçalves’ requests

In turn, Pedro Gonçalves explained how the conversations with the player have been red.

“Florentino has always been very frank, very honest. He never ruled out this possibility, but he always left it in the air that he needed more time to decide. We don’t want to put pressure on the player and, therefore, we have to wait for the decision. It is clear that he also wants to reach the Portuguese national team”, the coach began by saying in an interview he gave to the website ZeroZero.

“There is no need to be afraid of words here. We have our means of communication and we are very transparent in our approach. We also do not make any kind of promises to players that we cannot fulfill. That said, if one day Florentino wants to play for Angola, and if he deserves to be in the squad, we are sure he will be a great asset for us”, he concluded.
