Winter storm alerts issued for New York

The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a winter storm watch for several counties in New York, including Wyoming, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Southern Erie, Oswego, Jefferson and Lewis counties.. The advisory is in effect from Friday morning through Monday morning.

How much snow will New York get?

Snow accumulations of 7 inches or more possible in some areas and wind gusts could reach up to 30 mph.

Forecasters note uncertainty in the exact location and intensity of snow bands, but multiple periods of heavy snowfall are anticipated, according to the Weather Service.

Travel conditions could become hazardous, with poor visibility, deep snow on roads, and potential closures of major roadways.
