Free business charging could end on January 1, 2025

From January 1, 2025, charging your electric car at work could become chargeable. Since 2020, companies have been able to provide their employees with charging without any tax impact, recalls Frandroid. The provision of terminals was not considered a benefit in kind.

But this measure normally ends on December 31, 2024. The use of terminals in companies could therefore become chargeable, with taxation for employees and additional social security contributions for the company, this type of service being considered as a benefit in kind . Companies could therefore decide to pay more to continue offering this service… or to remove the charging stations.

The possibility of renewal

The end of this measure was provided for by law, which in fact provided for the end of the advantage on December 31, 2024. It was also initially supposed to end on December 31, 2022 but the government had extended the measure by two years in order to to continue to promote the energy transition and the purchase of electric vehicles.

The end of this advantage could represent an additional obstacle for those who are thinking of buying an electric car. While the French are encouraged to pollute less and low emission zones (ZFE) are multiplying across the country, many hope that the government will renew the measure again, notes Capital.
