Few people are having a better 2024 than Jaylen Brown, who got to enjoy meeting a childhood hero on Friday night after helping the Boston Celtics defeat the Washington Wizards.

Bill Nye the Science Guy answered Brown’s request for a meetup by appearing at TD Garden to watch the reigning NBA champs take on the Wizards in an NBA Cup game.

Nye’s trip to Boston came after Brown tweeted on Nov. 2 asking how he could meet the iconic science educator.

How can I meet Bill Nye the science guy ????

Speaking to reporters after the game, Brown explained that Nye “made learning fun” when he watched him as a kid and wanted to shake his hand to think him for “helping me on my educational journey” while growing up.

Brown said he didn’t know in advance that Nye was going to be at the game, but the in-house camera people at TD Garden may have helped the Celtics by pointing it out to him,

Khari A Thompson of Boston.com noted when Nye was shown on the jumbotron with 9:41 remaining in the second quarter, the Celtics were trailing by seven and Brown had just for points.

Brown would finish with 31 points, 11 rebounds and five assists in the 108-96 win over Washington.

Bill Nye the Science Guy television program aired in syndication from 1993 to ’99. The series used action and humor to educate audiences, especially younger viewers, on various scientific concepts.

Nye most recently created a Netflix series titled Bill Nye Saves the World that produced 25 episodes over three seasons from 2017 to ’18. He served as host and brought in a rotating group of correspondents who helped in the presentation of each episode.

Brown won his first NBA title over the summer and now got to meet his hero. There aren’t many people have had a better run this year than the Celtics forward.
