After six matches against teams from the first part of the Ligue 1 table, OL have still not managed to win this season. However, he had plenty of opportunity in Reims on Saturday (1-1).
So far, the Lyonnais' journey has ultimately been quite linear. They manage to take points against on paper weaker teams, those in the second part of the ranking, but struggle against the others. After a little more than a third of the competition, OL's record against the current top nine in Ligue 1 is not worthy of a contender for Europe.
Reims was the sixth team in the first half of the table that he faced (1-1). In six confrontations, Alexandre's teammates Lacazette recorded two defeats (Monaco and Marseille), but above all four draws (Lille, Reims, Lens and Auxerre). With frustrating scenarios in many of these meetings, like the duels against OM (2-3), LOSC (1-1) or even AJA (2-2).
15 points out of 18 against teams ranked after 9th place
Points left on the way which weigh in the balance sheet after twelve days (19 units). A statistic all the more regrettable since Pierre's men Sage do the job when a poorly ranked opponent appears before them. Apart from Rennes, first poster of the 2024-2025 financial year (3-0), the Rhone residents beat all the other teams between 10th and 18th place.
It wasn't always easy, like in Toulouse, against Strasbourg (4-3) and during the derby (1-2 and 1-0 success), but OL also managed to win with mastery against Nantes (2- 0) and Le Havre (0-4). To see higher than the provisional fifth place, it will be necessary to transpose these results during the major meetings. At the conclusion of the first leg, Olympique Lyonnais must still challenge Nice (7th), Angers (16th), Paris (1st), Montpellier (20th) and Brest (13th).
