Organized by the Skeudenn Bro-Roazhon association, the Yaouank festival (young in Breton), celebrated its 25th edition. Since November 8, multiple events have been offered to the public, including cinema, introduction to dance, theater and even conferences. In total, 9,000 festival-goers took part in these various events, including the famous and highly anticipated fest-noz. Indeed, like every year, Yaouank ends with the biggest fest-noz in Brittany and the world which took place this year in the city center of Rennes, due to work in the traditional exhibition hall.
Full for a week
“We are taking the opportunity to reinvest the Liberty Room where we were already installed 20 years ago. We therefore reduce the possible gauge as much as possible. So we’ve already been full for a week,” explains Kémo Veillon, the artistic director of the festival. With 5,400 dancers gathered for this edition, if the fest-noz a lively and open Breton culture. We thus find groups on stage which mix Breton music with other styles more electro, world music or even punk. There are different things. Yaouank's programming, which means young, also strives to give emerging artists a chance by serving as a springboard.
More than 12 hours of music and dancing
Around fifteen groups took the stage one after the other, including Plantec, Fall Foen, the Handia quartet, Digabestr and even Erwan Hamon and Sylvain Leroy. Enough to liven up this giant fest-noz until the end of the night and make participants from the entire region and beyond dance for more than 12 hours.
