In addition to the federal ones, three other proposals will be voted on today in the canton of Basel-Stadt.

Music variety
As the name suggests, this initiative promotes a diverse music landscape in the canton. In addition, cantonal financial support for freelance musicians should be expanded. At least a third of the annual Basel music funding budget should be used for this.
Voting and voting rights for foreigners
Through an amendment to the Basel-Städtische constitution, foreigners are to be granted cantonal voting rights. If the bill were adopted, it would entitle people without Swiss citizenship who have lived in the canton of Basel-Stadt for more than five years and who have a C permanent residence permit to vote. However, these people would still be excluded from holding official elected office.
Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2025
The ESC will take place in Basel in May 2025. The canton approved a budget of 34.9 million francs for this. The referendum was held against this. If the budget were rejected by the electorate, the scope of the ESC would have to be significantly reduced. The contract with SRG could even fall through.
Second ballot for government council seat
In addition, the second round of voting will be held for the last open seat in the Basel government council. Esther Keller (GLP, previously) and Anina Ineichen (Greens) are running in the election. The interim results will be announced at 12 noon.
