A disagreement between the French driver and his team caused confusion during the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Pierre Gasly, third on the grid, was forced to retire with engine problems.
Esteban Ocon finished in 17th place at the Las Vegas Grand Prix. A new disillusionment for the Frenchman at the heart of a disagreement with his team since he entered the pits for a tire change but his mechanics were not ready to welcome him. The Norman therefore had to pass his turn and return to the track… losing a lot of time and disrupting his strategy. “We had to make one more stop… It's a shame because we didn't have bad speed and we managed to manage the tires well by being very aggressive by staying on the track with just one stop. We tried everything but it was too much and in the end we had to stop again. It would have been different if we had managed to put everything in order at the start of the race.commented Pierre Gasly's teammate on Canal+.
The latter also saw his dreams of points disappear in Las Vegas when he started from third place on the grid. An engine problem deprived him of power aboard his Alpine. He was forced to retire on the 16th lap after, again, a disagreement on the radio between him and his interlocutor within the French team. “It's heartfelt because we did good qualifying even though we knew the cars around us were faster. We were going to have a potential fight with Tsunoda for 7th or 8th place and unfortunately we couldn't convert that today. It's hard to take at the moment“, explained the pilot.
These disappointments do not do the team's business, which falls to 7th place in the constructors' standings behind Haas. A dark season for the Blues who have two races left to turn things around before the close of the debates.
