The south wind was force 6, Saturday November 23, 2024, in the afternoon, off the coast of Côte de Nacre (). These particularly unfavorable weather conditions were due to the passage of depression Bert, which followed storm Caetano, in Calvados.

A windsurfer in difficulty

Despite these strong gusts, a practitioner of windsurfing had gone out to sea, off the coast ofHermanville-sur-Mernear Ouistreham. On the beach, a witness noticed that he was in difficulty and alerted the emergency services.

Firefighters launched a light lifeboat and, on land, engaged a rescue and victim assistance vehicle.

The SNSM of Ouistrehamfor her part, went to meet the windsurfer with her semi-rigid SNS 7-002 Dominique Semaine. It was this boat that finally recovered the windsurfer. He was then taken care of by the firefighters.

Call for caution

The maritime prefecture calls on those practicing water sports to exercise the greatest caution for the end of this weekend marked by the “Bert” depression and particularly unfavorable weather conditions.
