Météo France has placed the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department on orange alert for a risk of violent winds this Sunday. Gusts, linked to the Bert depression, will strengthen in the Basque Country from Sunday morning, indicates the meteorological organization in its latest bulletin.
This is a “non-exceptional” windy episode but strong enough to require increased vigilance. Strong gusts should occur until the end of the afternoon on the Pyrénées-Atlantiques: with 100 -110 km/h (possibly 120 km/h) on the Basque coast, or even 120 to 140 km/h on the ridges , predicts Météo France. Inland, gusts should not exceed 90 to 100 km/h in the Massif Central, as far as the Gier valley and Lyonnais.
For Monday, the organization plans to extend this orange vigilance to three departments: Loire, Haute-Loire and Rhône. An “uncertainty persists on the relief of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques with a resumption of a strong wind”, during the night from Sunday to Monday, he indicates. Thus, orange vigilance could also be extended in this department in the south-west of France.
The wind is expected to blow over the Hautes-Pyrénées during the night from Sunday to Monday. Gusts reaching 100 km/h in the valleys due to surges are possible. The level of vigilance could then be revised upwards, warns Météo France.
