Elon Musk reignites feud with Jeff Bezos over Amazon boss’s election prediction

Elon Musk has reignited his long-running feud with Jeff Bezos by claiming the Amazon founder had urged people to sell stock in the Tesla boss’s firms because Donald Trump was going to lose.

Writing on X, the world’s richest man said: “Just learned tonight at Mar-a-Lago that Jeff Bezos was telling everyone that @‌realDonaldTrump would lose for sure, so they should sell all their Tesla and SpaceX stock.”

Responding to the claim, Mr Bezos, 60, wrote: “Nope. 100% not true”, to which Mr Musk added: “Well, then, I stand corrected.”

Mr Musk endorsed Mr Trump for the presidency following the first assassination attempt on the president-elect’s life in July. He spent tens of millions supporting his re-election bid and has not left Mr Trump’s side since his electoral victory.

The Tesla CEO was rewarded for his support with a role leading the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) alongside former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.

Mr Bezos, who owns the Washington Post, was criticised when his paper — which had a long run of backing Democrats —refused to endorse a candidate for the 2024 election, which was interpreted by some as a sign he feared reprisals from Mr Trump should he be successful.

Following Mr Trump’s defeat of Kamala Harris, Mr Bezos congratulated Mr Trump “on an extraordinary political comeback and decisive victory” and wished him “all success in leading and uniting the America we all love”.

The two billionaire CEOs have traded barbs for years. They have several rival businesses, most notably their space companies Blue Origin and Space X, which compete for government contracts.
