Broadcaster of Ligue 1 since this summer, DAZN is struggling to attract subscribers. A clause allows it to stop broadcasting the French championship within a year. The president of LOSC, Olivier Létang, is preparing for this eventuality.
DAZN was the big winner of the summer among broadcasters. The TV rights crisis this summer had a huge impact on clubs, who were unable to anticipate the budget forecast for the coming season. Finally, at the beginning of August, an agreement was reached between the LFP and the platform for the broadcast of the French championship until 2029. However, DAZN is struggling to be convincing in welcoming new subscribers, in particular because of the price of the subscription which has caused a lot of talk. A clause stipulates that if by December 2025, DAZN has not reached 1.5 million subscribers, then it may stop broadcasting Ligue 1 earlier than planned. Precisely, it will be at the end of the 2025/2026 season. President of LOSC, Olivier Létang returned to the current situation in an interview with RMC.
Létang wants to prepare now for change
Manager and also a member of the Board of Directors of the LFP, the former PSG and Rennes player is not optimistic about the outcome that DAZN will give to his contract. He believes that we must be ready now for a big change to take place in December 2025: “If I agreed to go to CA, it was to change a way of doing things. We have a deadline that could happen very quickly on TV rights. Either DAZN or the League can get out of this deal. This means that in a year, we will have to be ready to find the next step. he said in the After Foot show on RMC. A major decision which could have serious consequences for French football. As a reminder, following the length of negotiations between the LFP and the broadcasters, four elite clubs were unable to spend a single cent on the transfer market.
