GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – It’s Wisconsin. It snows. But it can be tough getting back in the winter routine.
Safety officials say the first snow of the year can often cause major problems as we all adjust, especially with the high winds mixed with snow Thursday.
- Slow down, even if you don’t see snow sticking to the pavement
- Don’t use cruise control
- Leave plenty of distance between you and other vehicles.
Thursday and through the rest of the season, get back in the mindset of sharing the road with snowplows. If they’re treating or plowing, stay back for your own safety.
With the gusty winds, you might find moments of low visibility.
The slushy snow is making roads slippery. Take it easy especially on bridges and overpasses and getting on and off a ramp.
Make sure you have a winter emergency supply kit in your car. Put that ice scraper and snow brush back in the car with a flashlight, jumper cables, extra blankets and a first aid kit.
Keep your fuel tank at least half full during the winter, and make sure your tires have good tread and proper inflation.
Whether it’s today or moving forward, preparing for power outages is important, too.
Wisconsin Public Service and We Energies recommend you download their apps so you can report outages and receive notifications.
