The first snowfall is expected to fall in the Ain plain this Thursday, November 21. These precipitations will be accompanied by a brief but intense cold snap. We take stock of the latest weather forecasts with Guillaume Séchet, meteorologist at Météo-villes.
An arrival of cold air on Wednesday with snow at altitude
In Ain, the situation will deteriorate significantly at the very end of the day this Tuesday with increasingly persistent rain. “The front, which arrives in the region from the north, announces the arrival of cold air,” explains Guillaume Séchet. “It will evacuate during the day on Wednesday with snow in the mountains but not in the plains. It should drop to 1000 m. »
Indeed, snowy precipitation is expected at Hauteville-Lompnes (1,000 m). “There will be a trailing sky with cold at altitude and sleet almost all the way to the plains,” the weather expert told our editorial staff.
Snow in the plains from Thursday afternoon
The end of the day on Wednesday will be dry before the arrival of the disturbance from the west, the trajectory of which remains to be defined. “It is quite probable that snow falls at low altitude over the department and even a few centimeters in the plain. Above 500 meters of altitude, it is certain that it will snow,” notes Guillaume Séchet.
A few snowflakes are announced by Météo France in Trévoux, near the metropolis of Lyon, Thursday afternoon. It could also snow further west in Nantua, Bellegarde-sur-Valserine and Gex.
Snowflakes and a big drop in temperatures on Friday
A snowy episode which could be marked for November 21, before a very cold day on Friday. At the start of the day, snow showers could fall as far as the plains, particularly in the central-western part of the department. “It will be really cold overnight from Friday to Saturday, below -5°C in the mountains. On plateaus below -10°C. »
A cold that will be very temporary. Saturday, but especially Sunday, temperatures will rise dramatically with a flow of hot air. “Sunday, it will be very mild,” announces the meteorologist.
