cold snap and snow in the North, violent winds in New Aquitaine on Thursday

cold snap and snow in the North, violent winds in New Aquitaine on Thursday
cold snap and snow in the North, violent winds in New Aquitaine on Thursday

It will snow in the Pyrenees above 1,500 to 1,800 meters, but much lower on the relief of the Vosges in the northern Alps, where snow will fall between 300 and 600 meters, under showers. A little sleet, or even snow, may also be observed in Lower , while in Corsica, on orange alert, the wind will blow strongly.

Cold snap in the north

The cold will increase in the North on Thursday, while a disturbance, called Caetano, will reach us from the West, bringing precipitation which will fall in the form of snow down to the plains in the regions from Lower Normandy to the , passing through the Center and Burgundy to Franche-Comté.

For the moment, uncertainty remains “about the extension of the snow episode towards regions further north of this axis (, Île-de-, Alsace-Lorraine)”, underlines Météo-France.

Strong winds in New Aquitaine

The atmosphere will be completely different in the South. With the arrival of the Caetano depression, temperatures will already be rising there, while violent winds will blow across New Aquitaine. These strong gusts will then return inland towards Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes before heading towards the relief and capes of Corsica. At the same time, rain will be expected on the majority of the peaks of Auvergne and it will be mild in the Pyrenees.

Temperatures will be particularly contrasting during the day, with barely more than 0°C in the north, compared to 15°C or more in the south, particularly on a fringe stretching from the Pyrenees to the Mediterranean.

Frosts Friday morning and mild weather this weekend

Friday could be the coldest morning of the season so far. Frosts will be frequent and sometimes severe. Even more so in the North, where the ground is potentially still snow-covered, risking a risk of refreezing. In Franche-Comté, the mercury could, for example, drop below -10°C. Between the cold and the unsettled weather, a few snow showers could still occur in the plains in the northern half.
