Here is where it is almost certain that it will snow at low altitude on Thursday November 21 and Friday November 22 in France.
A light episode of snow in the plains is confirmed from Thursday November 21, 2024, according to Météo France, while the cold will become more pronounced and precipitation is expected at the end of the week.
“The regions going from Lower Normandy, to the Pays de la Loire, via the Center and Burgundy to Franche-Comté currently seem the most privileged to observe a small layer of snow on the ground. “Uncertainty is still present on the extension of the snow episode towards regions further north of this axis (Brittany, Île-de-France, Alsace-Lorraine)”.
In Occitanie, Lozère could be affected all day from Mende to Villefort, and from Marvejols to Saint-Chély-d'Apcher. Aveyron should be affected by Aubrac in the morning and overnight.
In the Pyrenees, snow will be almost guaranteed above 1,500/1,800 meters above sea level. In the Alps, on the other hand, it should snow from 300 meters (in the Vosges and the Northern Alps), from Wednesday evening.
And Friday?
Friday morning could be the coldest of the week, sometimes significant frosts are expected. “In this context of possibly still snow-covered ground, the risk of refreezing in the northern half is quite significant,” warns Météo France. “On the snowy soils of Franche-Comté the mercury could well drop below –10°C. This would a priori be the coldest morning of the cold season so far.”
Although snow showers are not impossible in the northern half of France, a “powerful mild spell” is forecast this weekend. The cold will not last long during the day on Saturday, which rules out a lasting snow episode.
