An indisputable starter last season at Olympique de Marseille, Pau Lopez could leave the Marseille club during the summer transfer window. According to information from RMC Sport, the Marseille management is not closed to his departure while the Spanish goalkeeper is appreciated in Italy.
This will be one of the issues of the offseason: there should also be movement at the goalkeeper position at OM. At the end of the season, Pau Lopez, always very lucid, raised the possibility that the club wanted to change goalkeeper and affirmed that he did not want to be a problem for OM.
According to information from RMC Sport, the Marseille club is not closed to a departure from the Spaniard who was nevertheless one of the indisputable starters during the 2023-2024 season with 49 appearances in all competitions.

New project, new goalkeeper?
OM has not yet made a final decision concerning him but the balance would tip towards Pau Lopez leaving this summer. A choice motivated by two reasons. On the one hand, OM accepts the idea of selling Pau Lopez in the event of a correct offer that interests the Spanish goalkeeper. The club would, however, be reluctant to sell him as part of a loan or if the offer does not suit the managers.
On the other hand, OM also think that this reconstruction and this new project embodied by the arrival of Roberto De Zerbi mark the opportune moment to find another goalkeeper.

A pattern which is reminiscent of the conditions of Pau Lopez’s arrival in Marseille to take over from Steve Mandanda. After a first season in competition with the 2018 world champion, the Spaniard was favored by the managers and ‘Il Fenomeno’ took over the management of Rennes in 2022.
OM remains discreet on the options envisaged to replace Pau Lopez this summer.
