Fabio Silva has endured a fairly tough start to his career after joining Wolves for big money in 2020.
The star became the club’s record signing at the age of just 18, with Wanderers having forked out a whopping £35.4 million on the little-known Portuguese striker.
Silva arrived at Wolves having not featured much for FC Porto’s first-team.
Perhaps inevitably, Silva struggled to justify his price tag and the star is currently now on his fourth loan spell since moving to Molineux.
But there was good news recently for Silva as he earned his first call-up to the Portugal senior squad.
Roberto Martinez suggested Portugal didn’t have a striker like Fabio Silva, with the youngster rewarded for an upturn in form at Las Palmas.
Silva has always hoped to play for his country – and the player’s father has now made a rather interesting suggestion about his son’s international prospects.

Following Silva’s call-up by Martinez, the youngster’s father has made some comments that may not go down too well with some Wolves fans.
Silva’s transfer to Wolves certainly raised eyebrows at the time.
It quickly became clear he was really raw, and that Premier League football was a real challenge for him.
To date, for several reasons, Silva hasn’t cut it in a Wolves shirt – and for Jorge Silva, the move to Molineux impacted his son’s international prospects.
He told Bola Branca program on Rádio Renascença (as quoted by O Jogo): “I have no doubt that it (Portugal call-up) would arrive earlier if the process we envisaged at the time was of greater stability and continuity at FC Porto. Today’s football is totally different from what I played.
“Today, talent is sought after very early. At the time, FC Porto had the proposal, there was a need to sell and we, family and agents, knew that the best thing was continuity. It’s not worth repressing all this.
“Especially in a Premier League context, we knew he would not be prepared,” said Jorge Silva. “The loans made him a better player, with better championships. At the age of 22, being in a championship that has always been his desire and that I think he better defends his characteristics, he can, by merit and resilience, have this opportunity.”

It is interesting to hear this suggestion from Jorge Silva.
Fabio Silva has suggested previously he didn’t necessarily want to make the move to Wolves, but that the money involved was just too much.
Now, his father has suggested Silva needed continuity – and it’s possible he has a point.
It’s a shame, because Silva’s career could have turned out so different and as his father suggests, he might well have been involved with the Portugal senior side much sooner had he stayed put. It was always going to be a huge challenge for him to move to a big Premier League club at that age, having not had much experience and for that massive fee.
It’s also a shame for Wolves because the club clearly wasted money on him.
In an ideal world, Silva will have a great season on loan at Las Palmas and Wolves will then sell him next summer and recoup as much of their initial investment as possible.
Hopefully, the 22-year-old will have some decent international pedigree by then and his market value will be higher as a result.
